Every morning has its own rhythm. Some days start with rushing, others with laughter. But for me, this year has been marked by a simple, tender ritual: Gabriela asking to be carried to kindergarten (école maternelle) in my arms.
The Moment
At first, I thought it was just a small request — maybe she was tired, maybe the backpack felt heavy. But as days went by, I realized it was more than that. It was her way of holding on to childhood a little longer, of feeling safe, close, and loved.
The Walk to School
We walk past the trees, the fences, the same streets each day. She rests her head on my shoulder, her arms around my neck. Sometimes we talk about the day ahead, sometimes we just stay silent, listening to the world waking up.
Carrying in Hands, Carrying in Soul
One day she will be too tall, too strong, too independent to be carried in my arms. But these moments will remain in my heart forever. Carrying her now is more than lifting her weight — it’s carrying her childhood, her trust, her love.
Reflection
Being a father is not just about providing. It’s about these fleeting, fragile moments when you realize that the most important things you carry in life are not things at all, but the people you love.
