Few bridges in Paris are as iconic and elegant as Pont Alexandre III. Stretching across the Seine, it connects the Champs-Élysées quarter with the Invalides and the Eiffel Tower. Built for the 1900 Exposition Universelle, it stands as a masterpiece of Beaux-Arts architecture, decorated with Art Nouveau lamps, cherubs, and the unmistakable golden statues of winged horses that guard its pillars.

On 1 June 2020, we found ourselves here, enjoying the sunshine after a long spring marked by uncertainty. France had lifted its first national lockdown on 11 May 2020, but restrictions were still easing step by step. The very next day, 2 June, cafés, restaurants, and many public places were set to reopen. That made our walk across the bridge feel like being on the threshold of something new — Paris waking up again, slowly and carefully.

We paused for a photo together on the bridge. Behind us, the golden statues shone brilliantly against the blue sky, while a few cars and pedestrians returned to the streets. Our smiles in the photo are more than just travel memories; they carry relief, gratitude, and a quiet joy at simply being outside together.

Travel Tips for Pont Alexandre III

  • Best views: Come on a sunny day — the golden statues glow in the light.
  • Photos: Early morning or late evening offers magical light without heavy crowds.
  • Nearby: Combine your visit with a walk to the Champs-Élysées, Les Invalides, or the Grand Palais.
  • Atmosphere: Take time to simply stand on the bridge and look both ways — Eiffel Tower on one side, Place de la Concorde on the other.

For us, Pont Alexandre III was more than just a bridge — it was a place where history, beauty, and our own story came together. On 1 June 2020, it reminded us that even after months of stillness, Paris continues to shine, and love continues to carry us forward. One day, we’ll return again to see it with fresh eyes, as travelers, dreamers, and a family still writing its journey.
